We are located in the heart of Narvik city center, within walking distance of the city’s main facilities and just a short distance from the bus station (with connections to the airport), the train station, the harbor, and not least the popular Narvikfjellet, offering activities suitable for the whole family.
History
The building where the hotel is located was first constructed in 1871. At that time, it housed a furrier’s shop and a shoe store on the ground floor, and a dentist on the second floor, until the building burned down in June 1940 during the battles of World War II. It was rebuilt in 1954 and has been operated as a hotel ever since.
During the 1960s and 1970s, it was known as “Wivel Hotel” and featured a restaurant and pub. The hotel had a dance floor in the basement, a restaurant on the ground floor, and a bar on the second floor. It became one of the city’s most popular meeting places for locals and sailors visiting Narvik.
In 2019, Narvik Hotel Wivel underwent a major renovation, where the entire hotel and all rooms on the first and second floors were completely refurbished. The rooms are designed in a modern, warm, and inviting style.
In 2023, we carried out a modernization process, including upgrading the breakfast room to accommodate more guests and to ensure you can enjoy breakfast in comfortable and welcoming surroundings.
In 2025, the third floor was fully renovated and now features a bright, modern look inspired by Scandinavian design.
At the reception, you will be welcomed by friendly and attentive staff.
You can help yourself to coffee and tea, and there is usually a homemade treat to enjoy with your drink. We also offer a selection of beverages and snacks for purchase. In the lobby, you will find comfortable seating areas where you can relax and enjoy light refreshments.
For breakfast, we offer a selection of hot dishes such as omelets, eggs, and traditional “pytt i panne,” combined with more classic options. Freshly baked bread, croissants, and freshly brewed coffee provide the perfect start to your day in a pleasant setting.
In 2025, we were certified as an Miljøfyrtårn-sertifisert, reflecting our focus on sustainability, environmentally friendly solutions, and conscious choices in our daily operations.
In the hotel’s basement, you will find the restaurant Furu Gastropub. The menu is inspired by the North and nature, prepared in their own unique way. There is a wide selection of beverages from local Norwegian and international producers. At Furu, you can enjoy both lunch and dinner in modern surroundings. Relax in a warm and comfortable atmosphere and forget about the outside world.
